 As 2007 winds down we can reflect on another positive year on this planet circling this star you call a sun. It was a great year for the genre and 2008 promises to be even better with hot properties such as Iron Man, Batman, Cloverfield and Hulk making an appearance in theaters. With that said a little top 10 list of 2007.

Serious Sci-Fi # 8

Here we go with 1983’s Brainstorm another rarely seen classic, this film has a superb cast and features Natalie Wood in her final role. The cast also features the great Christopher Walken, Louise Fletcher a.k.a. nurse Hatchett, and Cliff Robertson. With such an ensamble one would think this film was some kind of a court room drama. This tale asks the question, can our thoughts and feelings be recorded and can another person experience these emotions as if they were their own.

Serious Sci-Fi # 7

Welcome back class, today I’m throwing you a curve ball, with the not so serious Starship Troopers, this 1997 Paul Verhoeven film stars a young Casper Van Dien as Rico and a cast of young Hollywood types . This film is based on a serious Science fiction book by Robert A. Heinlein published in 1959. The book itself deals with many social issues such as fascism and war, the movie though takes the action to the ground as our Troops encounter bug like aliens in the distant future.
